For the last two years I have been involved with the organisation Artlift where I deliver art on prescription in two Wiltshire GP surgeries. Working with groups of a maximum of around twelve at a time, Artlift is accessed by patients of all categories and conditions creating art work together, visiting shows and galleries and putting on their own exhibitions.

The long gap in blog posts has largely been due to a really intensive project over a year and a half focusing on homelessness. Below are some images from the work created by people and exhibited as part of the overall project. The project itself can be accessed here doiknowyou.co.uk

Working with 5x5x5=creativity, Old Sarum Primary school, English heritage and Salisbury museum, this short film celebrates the opening of Old Sarum Community Centre with artwork created by children and young people from the Old Sarum estate, Salisbury and interviews with local residents of all ages. The film can be accessed by QR codes situated around the new community centre building and records just what a vibrant community old Sarum estate, old and new, is becoming. I had a wonderful time making this work and thank all the residents involved for their generosity in taking part.

The Magna Carta of Song

Another opportunity to work with the wonderful La Folia  'a music production company that brings together instrumentalists, singers, actors, dancers, visual artists and writers to create new music, original projects and ground-breaking performances.'

As their specialist visual artist I had the privilege of working with four schools for children and young adults with special needs, dealing with a range of disorders and disabilities from hearing difficulties to severe autism and physical  disabilities. The children and young people were, as always, inspirational, and outstripped all our expectations, producing a huge amount of stunning work for Salisbury Cathedral.

Salisbury Cathedral was a fitting setting for this opera, written by students with the amazing encouragement, involvement and skill  of La Folia's musicians, composers and dancers, it told the story of  a group of people striving to have their voice heard in society, a Magna Carta of song.

Digital project with 5x5x5

Over the past few months I have been collecting video footage for a really exciting project with a local housing development, instigated by the organisation 5x5x5 creativity. New homes side-by-side with an existing estate have meant new and old communities coming together. Using film which will ultimately be accessed by the community in the community the voices and experiences of local schoolchildren young people and adults will all contribute to the work. A wonderful day visiting Salisbury Museum's new Wessex gallery to investigate the history of the area and the local airfield took place with year six children from the local primary school. Accompanied by English Heritage staff, Salisbury Museum guides and led by potter Julie Ayton, the entire day was filmed and will feed into final digital work.

Year six children had a fantastic day documenting the areas past and seeing where they fit into the constantly evolving map of today which will someday be the history for future generations

The afternoon spent at Old Sarum airfield inspired some wonderful artwork as the children looked back on the day and created work from the items and images that fascinated them.

There's nothing more personal than your own sketchbook, apart from when you make that sketchbook from scratch yourself! 'Look no further'. That's just what we did.
Picture
Once made, we drew a map and took our sketchbooks out on an adventure, making rubbings, collaging finds and observing all the patterns, colours and shape we found on the way

Cicatrix Participatory Project

Over the last year I have been exhibiting as part of Cicatrix - a WW1 centenary project. As part of that work myself and Prudence Maltby have been working with Morning Star residents to develop their response to thoughts inspired by the exhibition and the theme of Cicatrix - the scar of a healed wound. Here are some of the images produced as each resident develops their own very personal response.

Lots of chalky fun as we take the Big Draw to the community

Once again Salisbury Museum took the big draw out into the community with a full day workshop at Bemerton Heath health and community centre. inspired by the Fovant badges and the many wonderful chalk drawings of animals and figures on the Wiltshire landscape we explored lots of chalky possibilities.
Picture
From drawing with the chalk itself we also looked at scratching plastic and rubbing chalk and charcoal over the grooves to bring out or drawings as if by magic.
not content with merely taking inspiration from the landscape, we wanted to 'grow' our own drawings, and using cress seeds, we should see the results of our work in about three days!
